Bryce 4
The sound of dripping water woke me. I found myself lying in a hospital bed in a dingy, not too clean room. Besides the bed, a wooden chair was the only other piece of furniture in the room, none of the usual medical equipment was in evidence. A scream from outside the room was quickly muffled, followed by a thump. A door opened and shut, followed by footsteps. I cautiously got off the bed and made my way to the door. The small window in the door was dirty but I could see another door opposite mine and a glimpse of a tiled wall, but nothing else. I opened the door slowly and stepped out into the hall. It was a long hall, with doors on each side, their windows dark. The walls were covered with dingy white tiles and the floor tiles were worn and broken from years of use. At the end of the hall, a set of double doors was swinging slightly, a pale light gleaming through the window. I took another step into the hall and looked down to see two bloody footprints in front of the door across the hall. I caught my breath, wondering what terrible thing had occurred beyond that door. A small pool of blood began seeping out into the hall from under the door. Where was I? Why was I here? Would I be the next to die? My heart was hammering in my chest as I stood there wondering what to do. I supposed that my only choice was to find whoever had brought me here and go from there. Taking a deep breath, I called out nervously, "Hello? Is anybody there?" Silence greeted my question, broken only by the steady drip of water.
